How to Link to a Document in Flash CS3

How to Link to a Document in Flash CS3 thumbnail
Adobe Flash can link to any file type, not just documents.

Adobe Flash CS3 is capable of linking to Internet URLs as well as local files using the text tool. This is done by creating text and then associating a link with that object. The text object is not required to be the same as the link. For example, a Word document can be labeled "My Report." The file you've linked to will be opened by your default Internet browser, so test your Flash file before presenting it publicly.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the text tool, create a text area on the main stage and type your desired text. Click away to complete the text, then re-click it to select it.

    • 2

Type a local or Internet link into the link entry bar of the Properties window. The link bar is located next to the chain icon. If the Properties window isn't visible, select the "Properties" open from the "Window" menu at the top of the program.

    • 3

Select your target type to select how the link is opened. To open it in a new tab, for example, select _blank.

Tips & Warnings

  • A local address, such as C:/directory/filename.html, can be linked as well as a shortcut address, such as filename.html, which will open that file within the same folder as the Flash file.
