This barbecue sauce is great on grilled chicken, turkey legs, pork, or hamburgers, in addition to spare ribs. For best flavor, grill your meats briefly, then stew in the sauce. Makes about 1 1/2 c. sauce - for enough meat to serve six people.

  • 1 c. honey

  1. Step 1

Combine the honey, salsa, apple cider vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and garlic in a small saucepan.

  2. Step 2

Cook over a medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.

  3. Step 3

Remove from heat and add the liquid smoke.

  4. Step 4

Place meat on grill and grill each side for about 5 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Smother meat in sauce and wrap in foil.

  6. Step 6

Cook on medium to low grill until done.

Tips & Warnings
  • You need to wrap the meat and sauce in foil because the sauce has a high sugar content and will burn if in contact with the direct flame for very long.
  • Don't open the foil packet any more than necessary. The idea is to let the meat cook slowly in the sauce.
  • You probably don't want to stew your burgers; just grill as usual and brush on the sauce at the end.
