Yeehaw! Drag out those cowboy boots and the biggest hat you can find, and step up to the tailgate for an Oklahoma-style good time. A tailgate party can be at home in your driveway with all the neighbors, or at the stadium. The main thing is to have lots of food and fun.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wear Western-style clothes. Consider painting an old cowboy hat in your team colors.

  2. Step 2

Cook lots of rib-crusher barbecue (see "How to Make a Rib-Crusher Barbecue").

  3. Step 3

Ice down lots of cool things to drink: a keg of beer, soda and sun tea.

  4. Step 4

Bring a thermos or two full of warm drinks for after the sun goes down (see "How to Make a Tailgate Tumbler").

  5. Step 5

Tailgate off an old truck or a brand new one. This is not negotiable.

  6. Step 6

Decorate the truck with team colors, pennants and flags.

  7. Step 7

Grill on the biggest homemade grill you can find.

  8. Step 8

Play boot-scootin' music on the radio or a boom box before and after the game.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't drink and drive; have a designated driver for post-game transportation.

on 11/22/2005 If you want to throw an Oklahoma Sooner party, don't dress up like a cowboy. If you go to an OSU Cowboy party, don't dress up like a cowboy either.

on 11/22/2005 First off, Oklahoman's don't always wear Western clothes and listen to country. Most of the suggestions are right, but a few need changing.
Dress comfortably - cowboy boots are fine but so are And 1's, Doc Martens, Nike's, etc. On your boom box, play what you feel, but I find that DMX gets a tailgate crowd in the mood for some football (so does Xzibit).

on 11/22/2005 Here in Oklahoma, we don't all dress like cowboys. Three fourths of the people in Oklahoma even have a western outfit. I think It's kinda hard for you people to say what a party is like in Oklahoma, it's not even like what you guys describe it as.
