A refrigerator drain pan is a component of a refrigerator that catches water from the appliance's defrost cycle. On occasion, it may become full, dirty or cracked and need to be removed for cleaning or replacement. The drip pan in a Kenmore refrigerator does not need to be cleaned unless something spills and drips into the vent, or there are leak issues. This pan is located at the bottom of the Kenmore refrigerator and is most easily accessed from the rear. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Unplug the refrigerator and pull it away from the wall so you can access the bottom of the back of the unit.

      Unscrew the screws holding in the lower back panel.

      Pull off the lower back panel to expose the drain pan.

    • 4

      Pull the drain pan from the refrigerator carefully, as it may be full of water and could splash onto interior refrigerator components.

      Empty, replace or clean the drain pain using warm, soapy water.

      Return the drain pan to its location and screw in the back panel.

      Return the fridge to its original position and plug it back in.

Tips & Warnings

  • If pulling the fridge out to access the back of it is impossible, the small vent plate at the extreme bottom of the refrigerator can be pulled off in order to pull out the drip pan, which is right behind it. This cover on the Kenmore refrigerator will snap on and off, so a screwdriver is not needed.

  • Do not operate a refrigerator without a drain pan in place.
