    Choosing Cup Flower

  1. Step 1

    Look for plants at nurseries in spring through summer, and year-round in warm climates.

  2. Step 2

    Buy cup flowers in 4- or 6-inch containers.

  3. Step 3

    Choose healthy-looking plants with signs of new growth in leaf and flower bud.

  4. Step 4

    Buy seeds for cup flower year-round at nurseries and from catalogs.

  5. Planting Cup Flower

  6. Step 1

    Plant cup flower in full sun and well-drained soil.

  7. Step 2

    Add a light application of organic fertilizer to the planting hole.

  8. Step 3

    Place the plants no deeper than they were growing in the containers.

  9. Step 4

    Set the plants 6 inches apart.

  10. Step 5

    Mulch around - but not on top of - the plants with 3 inches of organic compost.

  11. Step 6

    Water well until soil is completely moist.

    Plant seeds in early spring in the garden where you want the plants to grow.

    Cover seeds with 1/4 inch compost.

    Make sure the seeds do not dry out before they germinate.

    Mulch around - but not on top of - the plants with 3 inches of organic compost in spring.

    Water well weekly until soil is completely moist in summers with no rainfall.
