Thrift grows in tight, small mounds of thin leaves that stay evergreen. This perennial (meaning it grows back year after year) has lollypop-like flowers of pink or white that bloom in spring and summer.

What causes Armeria Thrift plant to separate and fall away from the center, leaving a noticeable hole in the center? How can it be kept in the compact, tight form as it starts out? Mine are all approximately 14" in diameter now but don't look as good as when first planted. Any help would be appreciated.
