How to Clean Distressed Unfinished Wood
Distressed, unfinished wood pieces have their own natural beauty. The grain in unfinished wood is often the focal point of furniture and decorative pieces. The antique appearance that distressing gives to a piece is always unique. The best way to preserve the unique, natural beauty of distressed, unfinished wood is to clean it regularly. However, unfinished wood cannot be cleaned with the same products that can be applied safely to finished, sealed wood. Unfinished wood should be cleaned with mineral spirits and a soft cloth. Dust the wood. Wipe it down with a dry cloth, or go over it with the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner's hose.

Dampen a clean cloth with mineral spirits.

Wipe down the wood piece, working in the direction of the grain of the wood, until it is clean.
