How to Clean Rust From an Acrylic Bathtub
Acrylic bathtubs are typically made from acrylic sheets that are reinforced with fiberglass and then vacuum molded. Acrylic bathtubs are non-porous and have a high sheen, making them a popular choice for many homeowners. However, if the bathtub is not properly cared for or if it is exposed to the elements, acrylic tubs may rust over time. Things You'll Need
- Baking soda
- Water
- Abrasive cleaner
- Cleaning sponge(s)
- Dishwashing liquid
- Bucket

Mix together equal parts baking soda and water to create a thick paste. Apply to the rust and allow it to sit for at least one hour. The paste can also be left on overnight. Rinse well with water.

Create a mixture of 2 tbsp. dishwashing liquid with 1 gallon warm water. Apply to the stained area with a gentle cleaning sponge. Rinse thoroughly.

Use a gentle abrasive cleaner if there is still rust on the bathtub. Abrasive cleaners, such as Bon Ami, can be purchased at most grocery stores or hardware stores. Acrylic can scratch easily, so use abrasive cleaners with caution and use plenty of water to help prevent scratches. Rinse well with water after cleaning.

Clean the acrylic bathtub on a weekly basis with a standard bathroom cleaner to help keep the tub clean and prevent any future rusting.
