Decorations

1
Cut out shapes of bats from black construction paper and hang a grouping of paper bats in a corner of the main party area. Cut out other black shapes of scared cats or ghouls and tape them to the windows in a way that looks like someone is peering in on the guests.
-
2
Dip the bottom of a pair of shoes in baby powder and "step" in the direction you want guests to follow. You can remove the footsteps with a damp paper towel when you no longer need them.
-
-
3
Blow up white balloons and draw faces on the surface to represent ghosts. Reserve two or three balloons for later use. Hang the ghosts together in one area of the house.
-
4
Pull apart cotton batting to create spider webs and hang the material in doorways and hallways for a more haunted feeling.
-
5
Cut out a large pair of eyes from a sheet of poster board. Paint the eyes red with large black pupils. Add a small dot of white paint to the same side of each pupil to make the image more lifelike. Hang the eyes anywhere you want to "watch" the guests.
Menu
-
6
Make Scooby snacks by rolling out cookie dough and cutting out dog bone shapes. Bake as directed on the package.
-
7
Set the table with a wide variety of foods and snacks, including pickles and hot sauce. You can encourage the guests to create Shaggy sandwiches using the different ingredients provided. Make certain to have a small prize available for the guest who eats his concoction.
-
8
Make a ghoulish punch using ginger ale and green and red sherbet. The color is a ghastly green but it has a good flavor. Experiment with color combinations by using red pop and green sherbet or grape soda and yellow sherbet.
Activities
-
9
Hide a treasure, like the presents or cake at a birthday party, and have the guests solve the mystery of who took them and where they are hidden. Provide the first clue at the scene of the "crime." Use a simple rhyme to direct the guests to the next clue. For instance, "I'm the ghost of this house. I walk as quiet as a mouse. If the cake is what you seek, use the mirror to take a peek." Tape the next clue to the back of a mirror.
-
10
Create an activity the guests must partake in to get the next clue. For an all girl party, you can have the girls dress up like Daphne or Velma and tape a clue on the inside of a pair of glasses. For boys, divide them up into two teams and have a relay race with the boys carrying each other like Shaggy and Scooby when they are running from a monster. Present the winning team with the next clue. A mixed group can make "goo" by mixing craft glue with liquid starch and food coloring. Tape the clue to one of the mixing bowls or the back of the starch bottle.
-
11
Play a game of Scooby Doo trivia by asking guests questions about the cartoon and movies. For instance, what is the first and last name of each character in the Mystery Inc. gang? Who is Scooby Doo's nephew? Can you name his cousin? What color is Shaggy's shirt? What color is Velma's sweater? What color is Scooby Doo's collar? Make the questions age-appropriate for the guests.
