How do I Replace the Lamp on a Samsung HLP6163W?

The Samsung HLP6163W is a DLP rear projection television (RPTV). Like all DLP RPTVs, it uses a powerful lamp to display the on-screen image. The lamp has a limited life span and requires periodic replacing, after about 3,000 hours of viewing time. While you always have the option of calling a repair service, replacing the lamp yourself requires only a few minutes and a Phillips screwdriver. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Unplug your Samsung TV. Allow it to cool at least an hour before replacing the lamp. Slide the TV away from the wall so you can reach behind.

      Remove the single screw holding the lamp cover in place. The lamp cover is located in the lower right corner of the TV's back panel. Remove the lamp cover.

      Remove the screws holding the lamp in place. Grab the lamp by its handle and slide it out of the TV.

      Slide a new lamp into the socket and replace the screws. Replace the lamp cover.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never replace the lamp until the TV has cooled. The lamp gets very hot during operation and you could suffer a burn.
