How to Clean a Bunn Thermal-Carafe Coffee Maker

Things You'll Need
- White vinegar
- Dishwashing soap
- Powdered dishwasher detergent
- Warm water
- Sponge
- Cold water
- Glass or coffee cup
- 2 soft cloths or rags
- Coffee filter
- Soft-bristled brush

Cleaning Your Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

Remove the filter and any coffee grounds from your Bunn Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker. Place the thermal carafe under the empty brew funnel.

Open your coffee maker's top lid and pour 1 qt. of white vinegar into the water chamber. Close the lid and turn on your Bunn Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Empty the thermal carafe after the brew process is complete. Let your coffee maker sit for 2 hours, then unplug the machine.

Remove the brew funnel and unscrew the sprayhead by turning it counterclockwise from the brewer. Fill a sink with soapy water and place the brew funnel and sprayhead in the water.

Use a sponge to clean the brew funnel and sprayhead. Rinse the parts with running warm water.

Fill the thermal carafe with cold water, open the coffee maker's top lid, plug in the machine, turn it on and pour the water into the machine. Let the water flow through the coffee maker.

Empty the carafe and repeat steps 6 and 7. Place the carafe to the side after the second brewing process and turn off the coffee maker.

Lift your Bunn Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker and turn it upside down over your sink to dump out any remaining water. Replace the sprayhead and brew funnel on the coffeemaker after the machine is completely drained of water.

Fill the thermal carafe with cold water, open the coffee maker's top lid, plug in the machine, turn it on and pour the water in the machine. Let the water flow through the coffee maker.

Pour a cup of the water in a glass or coffee cup for a taste test. If the coffee tastes like vinegar, empty the carafe and repeat steps 9 and 10 until the water no longer tastes like vinegar. Empty the carafe---your Bunn Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker is now clean and ready for use.
Cleaning the Inside of Your Thermal Carafe

Fill a sink with soapy water and unscrew the thermal carafe's lid by turning it counterclockwise. Place the lid in the soapy water.

Use a soft cloth or rag to clean the lid thoroughly including the inner ring and valves. Rinse the lid under running warm water. Place the lid back on the thermal carafe by aligning the tab on the valve with the slot inside the carafe lid and pressing lid in place.

Open your Bunn Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker's brew funnel, place a coffee filter in the funnel and pour in 2 tbsp. of powdered dishwasher detergent. Close the funnel and fill the carafe with water.

Open the coffee maker's top lid and fill the machine with water from the carafe. Place the carafe under on the brew plate and turn on the coffee maker. The water will brew into the carafe and remove any coffee stains from inside of the carafe.

Remove the filter from your coffee maker once the brew process is complete. Remove the carafe from the coffee maker and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse the brew funnel thoroughly with warm water.

Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub inside the carafe and the carafe's outer rim. Fill the carafe with warm water and 1 tbsp. of dishwashing soap. Continue scrubbing the carafe until it is clean. Rinse the carafe with running warm water.

Dry your coffee maker, carafe and other parts with a clean cloth or rag.
