1
Measure the distance between the shower wall with a tape measure. Spring-loaded shower curtain rods come in 48- to 72-inch sizes. Purchase the correct size for your shower.
-
2
Extend the curtain rod 1/8 inch longer than the distance between the shower walls. Most shower rods require turning one end of the rod clockwise to extend the rod and counterclockwise to shorten the rod.

3
Place one end of the shower rod on the wall where you want the top of the rod to be with the other end of the rod raised.
-
4
Lower the other end of the rod until it meets the wall, and pull down on the end until the rod is straight. If necessary, place a 4-foot level across the top of the rod to check the levelness of the rod.
-
5
Attach your shower curtain rod rings to the shower rod. Most rings simply snap over the top of the rod. Insert your curtain through the rings and snap the rings to close them and complete the installation.
