How to Connect a Home Theatre System for HDTV

If you have a home theater system that you want to connect to an HDTV (high definition television), you need an HDMI cable. HDMI cables are the only cables available capable of transmitting full, uncompressed high definition video from the home theater system to the HDTV. An added benefit is that HDMI cables transfer both audio and video over the same cable. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn both your HDTV and your home theater system receiver around so the back panels face you. The audio and video inputs/outputs are located there.

    • 2

Plug an HDMI cable into the "HDMI OUT" output on the back of your home theater system receiver. Some home theater receivers may label this "TV OUT."

    • 3

Plug the HDMI cable into any available HDMI inputs on the back of your TV. Most HDTVs have between one and three HDMI inputs, though more expensive models may have more. Once this cable is connected, your home theater system is properly connected to your HDTV.
