Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a set of printable labels at your local office supply store. Download the label template from the label company's template and use it in an appropriate word-processing program. If your word processing program does not allow the use of templates, measure the size of the labels and set up a template on your own. Divide up the number of labels you have by the number of children who will attend the party. For each child, print his name on the label using bright text colors and entertaining fonts. Include clip art with the theme of your party or something you know the child enjoys, such as a favorite animal or the ball from his favorite sport. Print out the labels and cut them apart by each child's name.

Open a new document in a word-processing program and set it to the landscape view. Divide the page into two columns. At the top of the first column, type the name of a party guest using the fonts and clip art you used on the labels in step one. For older children, fill the page with evenly-spaced lines like writing paper. For younger children, leave half the page blank and put a few lines at the bottom with wide spacing for larger writing space. Repeat this on the second column; copy this page two to four more times so that you have a total of six to eight columns for each child. Print this document and cut the pages in half, dividing the columns. Arrange each child's pages in a pile.

For each set of pages you have printed, fold a piece of construction paper or heavy colored cardstock in half like a book. Slide the pages inside this book and use a hole punch to punch holes in the sides, punching through all of the layers of the cover and its pages. Tie ribbon or yarn through the holes to bind the book. Attach a label with the child's name to the front cover of the book for each child.

Place a label on the front of a colored gift bag, repeating this step for each child. Put the journalsinside the bags along with a set of crayons, markers, colored pencils or decorative pens. Add the remaining labels you made for each child; now they can function as first-name stickers. Give these personalized creativity kits to each child who attends the party.

Tips & Warnings

  • Personalize the journals further by putting a question at the top of each page. For older children you could encourage them to write stories or describe their dreams and goals; younger children can be inspired to draw a picture of their family members or their favorite toys.
