Coffee contains tannin, which results in staining. After using your coffee maker for a while, you will likely notice stains on the glass carafe, as well as the exterior housing of the machine. While a coffee maker contains various parts, the only ones you want to clean with bleach are the pot and the exterior. Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup of bleach
  • Rubber gloves
  • Scrubbing pad
  • Dish liquid
  • Water
  • Dish towel
  • Container
  • 1 quart water
  • 1 tsp. bleach

Instructions

      Pour 1 cup of bleach into the glass coffee pot, and gently swirl the bleach around in the pot while holding the handle.

      Put on a pair of rubber gloves, and scrub the inside of the pot with a scrubbing sponge.

      Pour the bleach out into the sink, and wash the pot with mild dish soap and water. Dry thoroughly.

      Pour 1 quart of water and 1 tsp. of bleach into a container. Put on rubber gloves, and dip a clean sponge into the solution.

      Wipe down the exterior surfaces of the coffeemaker to clean and disinfect.
