How Do I Clean Ceramic Fire Logs?

Gas fireplaces are used for decoration and heat in the home. According to the Minnesota Blue Flame Gas Association, it is the most popular feature in homes and fireplace manufacturers sell over one million units a year. Gas fireplaces reduce the amount of work needed for a fire. There is no need for splitting wood or collecting timber. However, some people miss the look of wood in the fire, so manufacturers have produced ceramic logs. These logs need regular cleaning to improve gas efficiency.

Things You'll Need

• Tarp or scrap paper
• Vacuum with stiff brush

Instructions

1. Turn off the gas going to the fireplace during the cleaning process.

2. Note the position of the fireplace logs on a piece of paper or take a picture. The log position is important in having a functioning fire. Your manual will include instructions on placement and cleaning.

3. Remove the logs from the holder and vacuum the vent area, the assembly base, as well as the burner for the unit.

4. Vacuum the logs to remove dust and debris using a stiff vacuum brush attachment. Do not use cleaners on the logs.

5. Replace the logs in their correct position.
