How Do I Remove Glue From a Metal Surface?
Many types of glues and adhesives, including craft glue and stronger glues like carpet adhesive, stick quickly to metal surfaces. Soap and water alone will not remove the glue but using an adhesive remover will do the trick. Things You'll Need
- Rubber gloves
- Plastic scraper
- Adhesive remover
- Clean rags
- Sponge
- Dish soap
- Water

Put on rubber gloves and ventilate the area you are working in by opening doors or windows.

Squirt or spray an adhesive remover onto the glue and allow it to set for 5 to 10 minutes; depending on the type of glue and the amount you are trying to remove, you may need to allow the adhesive remover to set longer.

Use a plastic scraper to lift up the glue. Start at the edges of the glue and work your way to the center. Discard clumps of glue in the trash. For large amounts of glue, you may need to repeat Step 2.

Dip a sponge in soap and water and use the sponge to wipe down the metal surface. This will remove any remaining glue as well as clean off the adhesive remover.

Rinse the metal surface with water to completely rid it of the glue, adhesive remover and soap. Once the metal surface is clean, wipe it dry with a clean rag.

Tips & Warnings
Some commercial adhesive removers are solvent based and flammable. Keep open flame away from the area while working and always allow proper ventilation.
