How to Clean Vaseline on Glass

Whether glass is window glass, a wine glass or any other kind of glass, Vaseline on glass creates a slick mess.

Vaseline is a brand name for petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly consists of waxes and mineral oils that melt easily. At first glance, it may seem difficult to remove petroleum jelly on glass. However, using Vaseline's low melting point to your advantage by using warm water combined with products meant for emulsifying oils can make the process easier.

Things You'll Need

• Paper towels
• Liquid dish soap
• Several clean cloths
• Sponge
• 1 cup white vinegar
• Bowl
• Towel

Instructions

1. Dampen a paper towel and apply a drop of dish soap on it. Wipe areas with the most amount of Vaseline.

2. Place smaller glass items in the kitchen sink and fill it with warm water. Add about a tablespoon of dish detergent and let the items soak for up to half an hour. If your cleaning a window or something that is too large to place in a sink, skip this step.

3. Wet a cloth or sponge in warm water and apply dish detergent, as you did the paper towel. Rub this over the Vaseline-covered glass so that the soap coats the entire area. You may need to apply more dish detergent to large areas of glass.

4. Scrub the glass with the sponge or cloth and then rinse it with warm water. If the Vaseline is on a window or other large item, use a clean cloth saturated with warm water to rinse it off.

5. Mix a solution of 1 cup of vinegar to 1 cup of water in a bowl. Dip a cloth in the vinegar mixture and wipe it over the glass to remove any leftover traces of Vaseline or detergent.
