1
Build your fence far enough away from the pool to ensure it won't be splashed with excessive water. Metal fences can rust over time and wooden fences can rot if they gets damp for an extended period.
-
2
Keep the area around your fence well-lit at night to dissuade animals from approaching it or vandals from damaging it.

3
Cut away any weeds or plant life from around the base of your fence. Plants retain water and also provide shade, meaning they can cause fence rust or rot, which then requires repair.
-
4
Repaint your fence every two years to keep it looking new. The combination of chemicals from the pool, the elements and sunlight can cause the paint of your pool fence to fade or chip.
-
5
Clean your fence monthly to eliminate any dust or dirt buildup. The method may vary depending on the type of fence you have, but a hose will normally get rid of dirt deposits and the sun will dry the fence quickly.
