How do I Remove Wax Buildup From Wood Floors?
Wax can build up on hardwood floors if you regularly use cleaning products with wax. Although these products can initially make the floors appear shiny, the wax will eventually create a thick layer on the floor that you will need to remove. Use caution when cleaning wax or other products from hardwood floors, as wood floors can scratch easily and are difficult to restore. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn on a standard hair dryer set to high. Point it at the floor and move it in a back-and-forth motion to heat up the wax, which will soften it and make it easier to remove.
-
2
Gently scrape up the areas with the thickest wax using a small rubber scraper. Avoid scrapers with metal or hard plastic edges, as they can scratch the floor.
-
-
3
Mix 1 gallon of warm water with 2 cups of white vinegar. Wrap a clean, soft towel around a mop head and secure it with a large rubber band.
-
4
Dip the mop into the vinegar mixture and apply it to the floor, working in one direction only. Do not move the mop back and forth or in multiple directions. Work in sections and wipe the mop in one direction, then pick up the mop and start again at a point next to the beginning of the first section.
-
5
Replace the towel on the mop with a new one as it becomes dirty or saturated with wax.
-
6
Refill the bucket with a clean mixture of water and vinegar when all of the wax has been removed from the floor. Place a clean towel on the mop and clean the floor as usual.
-
7
Dry the floor with clean, dry towels.
