How to Dilute Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is the main ingredient in glycolic peels, a type of facial that uses acid to remove imperfections. It works by stimulating the skin into repairing itself and shedding old skin that may be damaged. Glycolic acid is very harsh on the skin, and it is advisable to dilute the acid with water to minimize irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Things You'll Need

• Glycolic acid
• Water
• Stainless-steel bowl
• spoon or fork

Instructions

1. Add 100 mL of cold water to a medium-sized stainless-steel bowl.

2. Add 100 mL of glycolic acid.

3. Mix the two liquids together until blended.

4. Dilute the mixture further if desired. For a 25-percent mixture, mix in 50 mL more water.

Tips & Warnings

• Always complete a test run before applying the acid to your whole face. Apply a small amount to your face, and wait 24 hours to see if you have an adverse reaction.
