1
Open Photoshop, click "File" and select "New." Type "LineArt" into the "Name" box and set your preferred dimensions, such as 6-by-6 inches. Pull down the "Color Mode" menu and select "RGB Color." Click the "Background Contents" menu and choose "White." Click "OK" to open the workspace. Click the "View" menu and click "Fit on Screen" to give yourself more room to draw.
-
2
Double-click the top-left box of the two overlapping colored squares on the "Color Picker" at the bottom of the "Tools" palette. Choose a color for the first part of the line drawing. Click "OK."
-
-
3
Right-click the shape tool icon on the "Tools" palette. The icon may look like a hollow rectangle, hollow circle, line or solid star. Right-click any of these and select "Line Tool."
-
4
Type a number into the "Weight" box at the top of the screen; the higher the number, the thicker your line will be. Position your cursor on the "LineArt" box and draw a line. Photoshop automatically ensures your lines are straight.
-
5
Add more lines to the "LineArt" box, increasing the width and changing paint colors for variation.
-
6
(Optional) Right-click the shape tool and select another shape, such as the "Rectangle Tool." Use the tool to create more designs on the "LineArt" box as preferred. When you click and drag your cursor for the shape, it automatically fills in with the current "Color Picker" color.
-
7
Click the "Window" menu and select "Layers" to open the "Layers" palette. This may already be open as a default. Click the small lines icon at the top right of the window. Click "Flatten Image."
-
8
Click the "File" menu, click "Save As" and save the line art to your computer.

Tips & Warnings
If you follow these steps and the object you're creating does not automatically fill in, look at the options just below the word "Photoshop" in the main menu bar. If "Shape Paths" is selected at the top of the screen, the object will not fill in. Select "Shape Layer" instead.
