The Manual Treadmill: How to Make the Belt Smooth

Manual treadmill belts can and will become worn out, torn and damaged. Usually this happens because the belt will fold up or twist as you are walking on it. Unlike a motorized treadmill belt, manual belts are propelled by your feet, which apply uneven pressure as they move the belt along. The best way to prevent unneeded wear on the treadmill belt is to get the belt to lay flat and continue to tighten it as it becomes loosened by use.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the belt is properly aligned. The belt can fold when one side of the rollers are adjusted to a different degree from the other side. The belt should be in the middle of the treadmill deck and each side roller adjustment should be equal to its opposite.

    • 2

Lube the belt using treadmill lube. If the belt feels that it is catching somewhere, lubing the belt will ease the friction between the belt and treadmill deck

    • 3

Roll the belt through a few times with your hands without additional weight on the belt to realign the belt.

    • 4

Adjust the tightness of the belt on the rollers and deck. If it is too tight, it will not roll properly. If it is too loose, it will move unevenly through the rollers.

    • 5

Clean the belt to prevent grime and dirt from interfering with the movement of the belt through the rollers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for maintenance and care of your treadmill.
