How to Make Cornstarch Playdough

Cornstarch playdough is made using basic ingredients found in most kitchens. It is a simple project that kids can help create with proper adult supervision. The resulting cornstarch playdough provides hours of inexpensive entertainment, and can last for months when properly stored.

Things You'll Need

• 1 ½ cups cornstarch
• ½ cup flour
• 2 cups water
• 2 tsp. cream of tartar
• 1 cup salt
• 1 tbsp. vegetable oil

Instructions

1. Mix all of the ingredients together in a saucepan.

2. Cook over medium heat.

3. Stir constantly until the mixture begins to gather together and form a playdough consistency. Cook time ranges from 5 to 7 minutes.

4. Spoon the finished cornstarch playdough onto a a sheet of wax paper or a cookie sheet, and allow it to cool completely.

5. Divide the playdough into balls. Add food coloring and knead it into the dough to create colored cornstarch playdough.

6. Store the cornstarch playdough in an airtight container or locking plastic bag to prevent it from drying out. Cornstarch playdough is best enjoyed when it is kept moist and pliable for continuous reuse.
