How to Run PowerPoint on a DVD

With the right software and equipment, you can save a PowerPoint presentation to a DVD.

PowerPoint has become a staple in the business world as an efficient and easy way to make professional presentations, which have to be stored either on a hard drive or flash drive. At times, this can be inconvenient, especially if you want to show your presentation at a location where there are either no computers or methods to project images from a computer to a screen. Another option is to save the presentation from computer to a DVD for easy television viewing. This can be accomplished in a few simple steps.

• DVD-R disk

Instructions

1. Perform a web search for a site that offers a "PowerPoint to DVD Converter." Select a reputable site and find the link to download the software. Read and agree to the terms and conditions. Click the "Download" button and follow the on-screen instructions to save and install the software.

2. Double-check your PowerPoint presentation to make sure it is exactly the way you want it; you will not be able to change it once it is on a DVD. Save it to a folder you can find easily.

3. Open the downloaded converter. Select your desired type of output--usually a standard DVD or high definition DVD.

4. Find the "Import" option from the converter menu and click it. Select "Browse from my computer" to find your presentation. Double-click your file to add it to the converter list. Click "add" to select the file.

5. Click "customize" to determine the amount of time between slide transitions. Click each slide to select the transition time to the next slide.

6. Select "Options" from the main menu to adjust settings such as language, video quality and aspect ratio. Continue to "DVD Settings" to add headings and menus to your DVD. Add music to the presentation by clicking the "Music" menu option. Select "Browse my computer" to find and add audio files.

7. Review the presentation for any errors or missing items. Insert a blank DVD-R into your computer and click "Burn." Do not remove the DVD-R until the program displays that the conversion is complete.

Tips & Warnings

• Read each screen carefully before deciding what to do; most conversion software offers the same options, but the menus may be titled differently.

• Review the presentation carefully before burning your DVD.

• Once the DVD is burned, put it in a player to make sure it is works correctly. If it does not play as it should, go back and adjust the transition times and menu screens and burn a new DVD-R.

• Once you have completed the DVD, practice your presentation a few times.

• Download programs only from sites that you trust to be safe and free of viruses.

• Many programs are trial offers that may require you to purchase the software after the trial period expires.
