How to Make Hair Wax at Home

How to Make Hair Wax at Home thumbnail
Use caution when touching or applying hot wax to avoid burning the skin.

Waxing unwanted hair is a technique used at salons and spas worldwide for both men and women. A hot wax solution is applied to the desired area and covered with a thin cotton fabric. The fabric is then pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth, pulling the hair out from the follicle as it is removed from the skin. Waxing can also be performed at home with a homemade wax created from some basic grocery items. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut up a clean cotton t-shirt or other cotton fabric into strips about 6 inches wide and 6 inches long.

    • 2

Heat 1 cup of sugar in a pan over medium heat on the stove, stirring constantly until the sugar begins to bubble and turns light brown.

    • 3

Add 1 cup of honey and ½ cup of lemon juice to the sugar and mix well.

    • 4

Take the mixture off the stove and allow to cool slightly to prevent burning the skin. Pour the mixture onto a clean cloth and then use your hands to roll the cloth around until the mixture firms up and turns yellow.

    • 5

Keep a bowl of hot water nearby to add to the wax if it begins to harden. The wax should be kept the consistency of pancake batter.

    • 6

Touch the wax with a finger before applying to the skin to make sure the wax is not too hot. Hot wax can burn the skin, so proceed with caution.

    • 7

Apply the wax to a small area of skin and spread thinly. Place a strip of cotton fabric over the wax and smooth with your hands.

    • 8

Count to 5 and then pull the fabric off the skin in the opposite direction of hair growth.

    • 9

Repeat on the sections of skin where hair removal is desired. Rinse skin with warm water when finished.
