  • Stove top
  • Saucepan
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. white vinegar
  • 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1-2 tsp. water
  • Wooden spoon
  • ½ tsp. spice (optional)
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • Storage container

      Heat a small saucepan over low heat until it is warm. Put the sugar in the pan and tilt it to make an even layer.

      Cook the sugar over low heat until it starts to melt. Add the white and cider vinegars and water. Add 1 tsp. water for thicker syrup and 2 tsp. water for thinner syrup that is milder in flavor. Stir constantly for about five minutes.

      Turn up the heat to medium. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture starts to turn lightly gold. Add a spice if you desire to bring some of your favorite flavors to the golden syrup, such as 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, vanilla, cayenne pepper or cocoa powder.

      Remove the pan from the heat when it turns more golden. Add the corn syrup, but don't stir. Let the corn syrup simmer in the mixture for a couple minutes.
