How do I Make Weed Killer Out of Salt & Vinegar?

Weeds are a nuisance wherever they grow on your property, whether it be in the garden or in the cracks of the driveway. Pulling weeds can be a time-consuming and never-ending process, as weeds always seem to grow back. A quick solution to kill unwanted weeds is a homemade weed killer made of salt and vinegar. Salt efficiently dehydrates plants, while the acid in vinegar destroys the roots. To top it off, this natural alternative is completely safe for animals and humans.

Things You'll Need

• 1-liter spray bottle
• 3/4 cup salt
• Vinegar
• 1 tbsp liquid dish soap

Instructions

1. Add 3/4 cup salt to an empty 1-liter spray bottle.

2. Fill the spray bottle with vinegar, but leave 1/2 inch of space at the top. Screw the lid onto the bottle.

3. Shake the bottle vigorously until the salt dissolves. This may take up to a minute of constant shaking.

4. Add 1 tbsp of liquid dish soap to the bottle. The soap will help the liquid stick to the weeds.

5. Spray the weeds so they are covered in a thin layer of the liquid. Let it sit and dry onto the weeds.

6. Repeat the process every two days, if necessary. One application is enough to kill some weeds, but others may be more stubborn.

Tips & Warnings

• Spray carefully. Salt may make it difficult, or even impossible, to grow new plant life in the soil for several years.
