How to Mount Ribbons

How to Mount Ribbons thumbnail
Mount your ribbons using the appropriate adhesive.

Ribbons won as awards at school academic, sports or music programs should be displayed proudly where they are visible. Mount ribbons with spray mounting adhesive or with adhesive mounting squares to whatever chosen surface. Poster board, canvas board, foam board, walls and cardboard all make good mounting surfaces for displaying ribbons. Purchase spray adhesive and mounting squares at craft, scrapbook and hobby stores.

Instructions

  1. Spray Mounting Adhesive

    • 1

Hold the nozzle of the spray mounting adhesive can about 10 inches from the back of the ribbon. According to Blick Art Materials, spray mounting adhesive sprays on clear, is non-staining and creates a strong bond.

    • 2

Spray the mounting adhesive over the entire backside of the ribbon.

    • 3

Press the back of the ribbon to the surface on which you've chosen to mount your ribbons. Hold the ribbon in place firmly for about one minute or more if your spray mounting adhesive manufacturer's instructions specify a longer duration. Pressing the ribbon against the surface allows the adhesive to create a secure bond. Allow the adhesive to dry.

    Adhesive Mounting Squares

    • 4

Remove three or four adhesive mounting squares from the package. Mounting squares have paper or plastic backed adhesive on both sides. Use more if your ribbon is very large or contains decorative florets or multiple ribbon tails that make it heavy.

    • 5

Peel the paper or plastic backing away from one side of the adhesive square. Discard the backing.

    • 6

Turn the ribbon over so the backside is facing you. Press the exposed sticky side of an adhesive mounting square at the top center of the ribbon. Press a square in the middle and press one near the end of the back of each ribbon tail. Add more as you think appropriate for the size and shape of your ribbons.

    • 7

Remove the paper or plastic backing from the adhesive mounting squares attached to the ribbon. Discard the backing.

    • 8

Press the ribbon to the surface you wish to mount the ribbon onto. Firmly press down on the front of the ribbon over the area where you have applied the adhesive mounting squares. Rub lightly to encourage a good bond between the adhesive square and the mounting surface. According to Scrap Jazz, adhesive mounting squares are commonly used to mount light, flat objects such as photographs and other items.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use spray adhesives in well-ventilated areas to avoid overexposure to harmful fumes, thus reducing the likelihood of neurological damage.
