How to Tie Kendo for Men

According to Fighting Arts, kendo is a martial art form whose name literally means "the way of the sword." Its history is rooted in Japanese fighting methods. During this sport, kendo fighters must wear protective gear to defend themselves against attackers' bodies and weapons. One such piece of this uniform is the kendogi, or do-gi. This jacket is worn by fighters during sparring practice. It is meant to be light enough to not restrict movement and absorb sweat during practice. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place your arms through the holes of the kendogi, allowing the open part of the jacket to be in front of you.

    • 2

Wrap the right front side of the jacket across your body to the left armpit, allowing the jacket to be stretched taut along your chest. Tie the string on the right jacket flap to the string hanging from the inside of the jacket underneath the left arm. The right side of the jacket should now be prevented from coming loose.

    • 3

Wrap the left side of the jacket along your chest, tying its string to the strings hanging from the right side of the outside of the jacket.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wrap the jacket far enough across your chest that the neckline creates a tight circle around your neck. Show no part of your chest while wearing the kendogi.
