Almost everyone likes to get something for nothing, but the product must be something of benefit; otherwise, the consumer will not purchase more. Not all products are suitable for distribution as free samples. Samples of gourmet foods like cookies or candy are always popular. Some cosmetics, lotions, creams and even health and beauty aids like cotton swabs are safely sent through postal mail. Major manufacturers are constantly sending sample products to consumers, usually with a discount coupon, in the hope this will increase sales.

Instructions

1. Create or purchase small packets of the product you are distributing. Imprinted greeting cards and calendars will keep your information before the consumer.

2. Send the samples to families who have children, if it is a product a child would use. If the product is useful to the elderly, then your mailing list should include the elderly or retirement community residents. Purchase these mailing lists online.

3. Place classified ads in newspapers and local tabloids offering a free sample of your product. Enclose your catalog or sales brochure with each sample sent.

4. Create a discount coupon that consumers can return with their orders. Include ordering information and a self-addressed stamped return envelope to facilitate ordering. Consumers who want or need the product will order, and your sales will increase.
