Gmail users have always had the ability to send photos as file attachments, but what if you want to send a picture in the body of an email? Placing photos in the message text is more convenient for the reader and can sometimes help explain a concept or example. Luckily, Gmail has an easy-to-use feature for inserting photos in emails.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up your Gmail inbox and click the "Settings" link in the upper-left corner of the screen. Click the "Labs" tab. It is fourth-to-last on the menu.

    • 2

Scroll down to "Inserting images" and click the "Enable" radio button. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page. Select the "Compose mail" button below the Gmail logo to create a new message.

    • 3

Click the picture icon to insert an image into the message body. It looks like a mountain range and sits between the emoticon and link buttons.

    • 4

Select "My Computer" to load a picture saved to your hard drive or "Web address (URL)" to upload a picture from the web. Find the picture on your computer or insert the exact URL of the photo. Gmail will load the photo and display a preview. Click "OK" to confirm the upload and insert the picture into the email.

Tips & Warnings
