Instructions

    • 1

Measure the desired height of the door lock and mark the height center line on the door edge, then square the line horizontally across the door edge.

    • 2

Determine the correct side of the "Cylinder Pull" template provided, following the template's instructions based on the hinging of the door. Align the template with the height line marked in Step 1 and mark the three holes (one large and two smaller) indicated by the template on the designated side of the door using an awl, then reverse the template and mark the opposite face of the door.

    • 3

Drill a 1 1/4 inch diameter hole through the door at the large hole center line marked in Step 2 using an electric drill, drilling approximately halfway through from one side, then completing the hole by drilling through from the opposite side. Drilling the hole from both sides minimizes chipping and splintering of the door surface.

    • 4

Drill a 1/2-inch diameter hole into the outside face of the door to a depth of 5/8 inch at each of the other two outside points marked in Step 2. Using a piece of masking or duct tape to mark the depth on the drill bit will help define the depth when drilling the holes.

    • 5

Drill a 1/2 inch-diameter hole into the inside face of the door to a depth of 3/16 inch at each of the other two inside points marked in Step 2.

    • 6

Drill 5/16-inch diameter holes through the centers of the two holes you drilled in Steps 4 and 5.

    • 7

Align the "Mounting Plate" template provided with the 1 1/4 inch hole drilled in Step 3, then mark the position of the three small holes designated on the template on the inside of the door using an awl, as well as the top and bottom edge recess layout.

    • 8

Drill three 1/8-inch diameter holes to a depth of 1 1/4 inches at the points marked in Step 7.

    • 9

Place the PBS1 interior latch bolt assembly against the interior door face and align the edge fin of the lock body with the edge recess layout lines marked in Step 7, then scribe the outline of the lock fin on the door edge using a utility knife.

    • 10

Cut out the shape of the edge fin scribed in Step 9 to a depth of 1/8 inch using a hammer and chisel. This recess holds the edge fin of the lock when its fully installed.

    • 11

Position the keyed exterior-side lock assembly on the exterior side of the door, making certain the flat connecting bar protrudes through the large center hole. Attach the assembly with the two Phillips-head bolts provided using a screwdriver. Tighten the bolts until the lock assembly is held firmly against the door face.

    • 12

Release the mounting plate from the back of the interior latch assembly by loosening and removing the two small screws above and below the latch bolt. Do not remove the black washer beneath the mounting plate.

    • 13

Position the mounting plate removed from the interior latch bolt in Step 12 over the connecting bar and aligned with the holes marked in Step 7. Secure the mounting plate to the keyed exterior-side lock assembly using the two 1 3/4-inch connecting screws provided, inserted through the top pair of holes in the center of the mounting plate.

    • 14

Complete the attachment of the mounting plate to the door using the wood screws supplied at the holes marked in Step 7.

    • 15

Place the interior latch assembly on the hook tabs on the mounting plate and slide the assembly horizontally so that the edge fin of the unit fits snugly into the recess on the door edge cut out in Step 10. Attach the assembly to the mounting plate by replacing the two screws above and below the latch bolt removed in Step 12. Secure the latch assembly with two 1-inch wood screws provided inserted through the edge fin into the door edge.

    • 16

Close the door and use the installed lock as a guide to mark the position of the latch strike on the door jamb.

    • 17

Hold the latch strike in the position marked on the jamb in Step 15. Chisel out a recess in the jamb to hold the flush with the surface, then secure the strike plate to the jamb with the four 1 3/4-inch wood screws provided.
