Many fruits and vegetables are grown on farms that use chemical pesticides to keep bugs and insects from destroying the produce. Some of those chemicals could still be on your produce when you purchase it. There are many produce washes on the market, but you don't need to purchase them if you know how to make your own. Things You'll Need

  • Empty spray bottle
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 3/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. baking soda
  • 10 drops grapefruit seed extract
  • 10 drops grape seed extract

Instructions

      Pour 1 cup of distilled water and 3/4 cup of vinegar into a clean spray bottle.

      Add 1 tbsp. of lemon juice and 2 tbsp. of baking soda. Give the bottle a shake to begin combining the ingredients.

      Finish the homemade veggie wash with 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract and 10 drops grape seed extract. The grapefruit seed extract will sanitize the produce while the grape seed extract will add much needed antioxidants.

      Spray your produce thoroughly with the homemade veggie wash and let the veggies sit for 10 minutes.

      Rinse the produce off with cold water from the faucet and then store appropriately.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use your veggie wash on mushrooms. You won't harm the mushrooms, but they will end up tasting like the veggie wash instead of mushrooms.
