Choose an existing knit stocking cap to which you would like to add a knit hat brim. Select a contrasting or complimentary color worsted weight yarn for the hat brim.

Pick up a stitch from the bottom front of the hat.

Step 3

Cut a trapezoid shape from the plastic that is 2 inches wide and 6 3/4 inches long on its longest side. The short length of the trapezoid shape will be 4 inches long.

Step 4

Fold hat brim in half at row 14 to make the brim pocket. Slip the plastic piece inside the knit pocket and slip stitch the brim closed with the tapestry needle.

Tip

Gauge: 28 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches over the 2 by 2 inch rib pattern.
