You may want to reset a Samsung TV remote to change the device it is programmed to control. Some Samsung TV remotes can be programmed to control other devices such as a cable box, audio system and DVD player. Check the buttons on top of the remote to see if your Samsung remote is capable of controlling other devices. If you see the CBL, AUX and DVD buttons, your remote can be programmed for these devices.

Reset the remote programming by pressing the button for the device you want to program and then holding down the "Setup" button until the light either blinks or goes solid. Type in the code for your device, press the device button and then touch "Power" to see if the device turns off or on. If it doesn't, repeat the process and try other recommended codes. You can find codes for your device by going to support-us.samsung.com and looking up the manual for your specific TV remote.

Samsung Remote Not Working

There are a few reasons why your Samsung remote may appear not to be working. You can fix many of these by troubleshooting. Your remote may stop working if the batteries in the remote are drained. Fix the problem by putting a new set of batteries in the remote.

The Samsung TV remote may also stop working due to an electronic glitch in the remote. This can be fixed by removing the batteries, pressing a button on the remote to drain any remaining power, and then replacing the batteries. Your remote should now function correctly.

Another common thing that can cause your remote to stop working is a failure to make contact with the IR sensor on your Samsung TV. Make sure no objects obstruct the bottom of the TV and then try to change the channel with the remote.

Factory Reset for Samsung Remotes

Samsung's smart TVs come with smart remotes that sometimes require a factory reset. The reset is usually necessary if your remote stops working and replacing the batteries does not resolve the problem. Perform a factory reset for your Samsung TV remote by holding down the "B" and "C" keys on the remote until you see the remote light flash twice. Type in the code "981" to complete the reset. The TV remote can now be reprogrammed to your TV.

Replace the Remote

If troubleshooting and resetting the remote do not fix it, then it is possible that the remote itself is defective. You need to replace the remote in this case. Either contact Samsung to order a replacement remote or purchase a universal remote to replace your Samsung TV remote. Check that the universal remote is compatible with your Samsung TV by looking up the remote compatibility on the universal remote's website.
