Backing up your movies or music collections on DVD-Rs may require a lot of disks.

The Dell B130 is a laptop, part of the Dell Inspiron 1300 series of laptops from Dell Computers that first came to the market in 2005. Like many laptops of the time, the Dell B130 came with a DVD-R drive built in to allow owners the opportunity burn DVD movies right on their laptop. The process of burning a DVD is as simple as placing a DVD-R disk in your laptop, although for some models of the Dell B130 there is an extra step or two that is needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your external DVD-R drive in to your Dell B130 laptop's USB port. If your Dell B130 has a DVD-R optical drive, skip ahead to step three.

    • 2

Insert your external DVD-R drive's driver disk into your Dell B130's optical drive and install the drivers for the device. The installation is relatively simple, as all you have to do is agree to the terms of service and follow the very basic on-screen instructions.

    • 3

Place a blank DVD-R disk into your DVD-R drive and allow a few moments for Windows to read the new media. As this is happening, open Windows Media Player.

    • 4

Click the "Burn" option from the top menu inside Windows Media Player and select "Data CD or DVD."

    • 5

Find the files you want to put on your DVD and drag them to the sidebar inside Windows Media Player.

    • 6

Click "Start Burn" when you have all the files you want to burn selected and in your burn list. Depending on the speed of your DVD-R and the amount of media being burned, this process can take some time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure the files you put on your DVD-R are less than the total storage space of the disk, otherwise the files will not copy.
