This calculation is an astrological process that helps determine horoscope information; it works in conjunction with a person's birth date. Subscribers of astrology believe navamsha helps determine not only your birth horoscope information, but also your marriage compatibility. The navamsha formula is somewhat complex and involves mathematical equations as well as the movement of the planets. Obtain a copy of your vedic birth chart and a navamsha chart. These can be found online through the Council of Vedic Astrology. Or you can calculate your own vedic birth chart. Use the zodiac chart to subtract 23 degrees from each of your birth planets, ascendant (the sign rising in the east when you were born) and moon. This answer converts to your vedic birth chart.

Use your ascendant planet to determine its elemental quality using the navamsha chart. The elemental quality is either fire, earth, air or water.

Follow the zodiac from this planet working in degrees of 3.2 (the differential of each planet's navasma). For this you need to be looking at the zodiac chart, as the zodiac signs are mapped out in a square formation. As an example, with Venus at 10 degrees of Scorpio, the navamsha results are first Cancer, second Leo, third Leo, and so on. The tenth degree falls on Venus, the ascendant planet, which is in Libra.

Draw your own navamsha chart putting the signs in your specific ascendant houses. Using the chart specifications, which can be found online, you can find the character traits associated with each of these houses. These character traits tell you not only about yourself, but also about your marital compatibility.
