How to Accelerate Torrent Downloads on Ubuntu
A torrent is a file that a user downloads in packets from different users in various places. The speed of downloading a torrent depends on how many "peers"--or other users who are sharing the same file--you can connect to. While downloading, you are also uploading packets of the torrent to other users. You can accelerate the speed of your torrent download in Ubuntu Linux using a few tricks.

1
Go to "Applications" and "Internet," then open "Transmission BitTOrrent Client." This is the default downloading utility for torrent files.
-
2
Go to "Edit" and "Preferences." Click the Speed tab and check the "Limit Download Speed (KB/s):" box. Change the numerical value in the box to "15000." This will accelerate a torrent download if you have a large number of peers.

Check the box "Limit Upload Speed (KB/s):" and change the numerical value to "11000." Your download speed becomes faster when you download more packets; this is the nature of BitTorrent. Click "Close" and run a new torrent to test its speed. Note that torrent speeds depend mainly on the connection of your peers on the network, and if they have a slow connection you will have a slow download.
