How to Perform a Soft Reset on a G1

HTC's G1 phone is a feature-rich device that operates on Google's Android platform. If you've had your G1 for awhile or have loaded it with apps, performance can suffer. If your G1 seems to have glitches or experiences the occasional freeze up, a soft reset may be all it needs. A soft reset can be compared to rebooting a computer--it resets your device and is often the first step to take in troubleshooting. Try the soft reset before taking more drastic steps.

  Begin with the G1 powered on.

  Press and hold the "End" key for a few seconds until the G1 powers off. Allow the device to shut down fully--the screen will turn black.

  Press and hold the red "End" key until the start up screen appears to turn your device back on. Your device is now reset.

Tips & Warnings

A soft reset will not erase any stored data or settings on your G1.
