Sunbeam electric mattress pads are designed to deliver heat to you while you're in bed, allowing you to leave off layers of blankets that can prove uncomfortable or hot. Electric mattress pads are fitted to your mattress and are powered by an electric hand control.   1. Check for Proper Heating Performance

      Fold the mattress pad over three times.

      Ensure that the control cord is connected to the module, and plug the power cord into an outlet.

      Turn the appliance on the highest setting and wait five to seven minutes. Feel inside the folds of the pad. If it feels warm, the appliance is working properly.

    Restarting After a Power Failure

      Switch the appliance to off and plug the appliance into the wall, if needed.

      Turn the hand control to the desired setting.

      Feel the hand control after three to five minutes. If it feels warm to the touch, it's working properly.

    Plugging in the Appliance

      Attempt to plug the appliance into the outlet in one direction. Sunbeam mattress pads have a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) to reduce the possibility of electrocution. The plug will fit into the outlet in one direction only. Make sure you haven't jammed the polarized plug into an outlet that accepts nonpolarized plugs.

      Reverse the direction of the plug, if it doesn't fit the first way. Do not force the plug under any circumstances.

      Try another outlet, or call a certified electrician if the plug will not fit into the outlet either way.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always turn the appliance off and disconnect the power cord when you are not using it.

  • Do not perform the heating performance test for longer than seven minutes. If you do not feel heat in the folds after seven minutes, turn off the appliance, unplug it and contact Sunbeam customer care at 800-892-7684.
