Instructions

    • 1

Clear away the old tile by placing a chisel at the edge and hitting the chisel with a hammer. This will loosen the tile enough for you to pry it up.

    • 2

Use a paint scraper to scrape away as much of the old grout and adhesive mortar as possible. This might require some strength. You can also use a metal putty knife.

    • 3

Pick up the larger pieces of grout and mortar with your hands or by using a stiff broom and dustpan.

    • 4

Use a shop vac to clean up the rest of the tile debris. Some of the tile sealant may have scraped off in very tiny pieces. A shop vac will enable you to clear away all debris before laying new tile or other new floor.
