Manufactured wood floors, also known as laminated flooring, provide the look of wood without the expense of real wood floors. While a durable product, laminate flooring is not scratch proof. Wood fillers or wood putty fill scratches in wood flooring. The fillers come in a variety of colors to match almost any wood floor and are available at most home improvement stores. Things You'll Need

  • Old toothbrush
  • Rags
  • Wood putty

Instructions

    • 1

      Rub an old toothbrush into the crack to loosen embedded dirt. Wipe the scratch clean with a damp rag. Dry the scratch with a dry rag.

      Scoop a fingertip amount of wood putty onto the end of your finger. Push the wood putty into the scratch. Apply additional wood putty to fill the scratch entirely.

      Wipe a damp rag over the top of the scratch to remove excess wood putty. Place your head down to the side of the scratch to ensure the putty is flush with the floor. If not, add more wood putty until completely flush with the wood flooring.

      Avoid walking in the area for 24 hours to allow the putty time to set and dry.

  • Scatter rugs in various areas of wood flooring to prevent scratches.

  • Avoid dragging furniture across wood floors.

  • Place felt dots under chair legs to discourage gouging in the wood floor.
