How to Scan for a Keylogger

A keylogger is a type of computer program that records keystrokes you make on the keyboard. Keyloggers are used maliciously to capture information in private conversations, steal logins and passwords and track your web usage. This type of keylogger is usually installed via Trojans and viruses. Keyloggers may be used for legitimate reasons, such as businesses monitoring employees' computer use during work hours. You may not know that a keylogger is on your system unless you scan specifically for it, as they are designed to be discrete and undetectable.

Things You'll Need

• Anti-virus or anti-spyware software

Instructions

1. Open your anti-virus or anti-spyware software.

2. Click the "Update" button to make sure you have the most up-to-date virus definitions.

3. Click "Scan" to start a full system scan. If your anti-virus software offers separate scans for viruses and malware, choose the malware scan.

4. Allow the malware scanner to remove entries listed as Trojans or keyloggers once the scan is complete.
