How to Build a Batman Suit

A Batman suit can be a fun costume for any occasion, whether it's Halloween or another theme party. Instead of purchasing an expensive Batman suit in a store, assemble the key suit elements and make a homemade costume that will make you look like the caped crusader without breaking the bank. You will need to decide if you want to build a costume modeled after the 1950s-era Batman, whose suit is light gray with a colorfol icon, or a more modern costume, which is solid black.

Instructions

  1. 1950s-era Batman Costume

    • 1

Select a gray stretchy long-sleeved shirt and matching strechy pants that are either black or gray.

    • 2

Cut yellow fabric into an oval shape that is approximately 6 inches long. This will be placed on the chest. Cut black fabric into the shape of a bat.

    • 3

Sew the bat symbol onto the center of the yellow oval.

    • 4

Sew the symbol onto the shirt so that it is centered on the chest area.

    • 5

Put on the shirt, pants and a yellow patent leather belt. Tie a black cape around your neck and put on black boots and black rubber gloves.

    Modern Batman Suit

    • 6

Purchase a black long-sleeved body suit made of a stretchy, thick material, such as latex or thick spandex.

    • 7

Cut out a piece of black vinyl in the shape of a bat. Sew this to the center of the chest.

    • 8

Put a gold belt around your waist and black strechy pants. Tie a cape around your neck and put on rubber gloves and black boots.

    Make a Batman Mask

    • 9

Cut the brim off an old baseball cap. Cover the remaining hat with black latex. Sew it securely in place

    • 10

Cut out two traingle shapes from the latex. Sew one on each side of the hat to make bat ears.

    • 11

Wrap a 3-inch wide strip of black latex around your head. Use a pin to mark where your eyes are. Cut out holes for your eyes. Wrap the latex strip around your face and place the covered cap on top.
