Trailer Coupler Instructions

Towing a trailer with your bike provides you with exercise and entertains your child. Securing each component of the trailer to ensure that it performs correctly ensures the safety of the occupants of the trailer. A trailer coupling provides a secure attachment point to your bike for the trailer. Installing the trailer coupling correctly is the first step in correctly towing a trailer with your bike.

  1. Installing Trailer Coupler on a Rear Hub with Nuts

      Loosen the hex nut from the non-drive side of the rear bike hub with an adjustable wrench. Remove the hex nut and the washer from the hub.

      Slide the provided tabbed washer onto the rear hub. Push the washer tab into the slot located on the frame just behind the hub. Slide the trailer coupler over the hub and toward the tabbed washer. Align the coupler with the holes in the washer.

      Slide the hub washer, removed earlier, onto the hub and against the trailer coupler. Thread the hex nut onto the hub. Tighten the nut with the adjustable wrench.

    Installing Trailer Coupler on a Quick-Release Hub

      Pull the quick-release handle away from the hub. Remove the hex nut and washer from the threaded end of the quick-release hub. Pull the quick-release assembly from the rear hub.

      Slide the trailer coupler and tabbed washer onto the quick-release hub. Make sure the trailer coupler sits in front of the tabbed washer and the tab of the washer faces the bike frame.

      Push the quick-release assembly back in the hub. Slide the washer onto the assembly. Thread the nut onto the threaded section of the assembly. Push the quick-release handle toward the bike frame to secure the trailer coupler to the bike frame.
