How to Reboot a MacBook Without Losing Anything

There are several reasons you may want or need to restart a MacBook. It could be required after installing updates or certain software programs, or the computer could just be running slow. Restarting closes all of the programs, clears the memory and gives the computer a fresh start. If you shut down or restart a MacBook properly, you will not lose important information.

Instructions

1. Press the "Power" button or "Control" and "Eject" simultaneously. Wait for the dialog box to appear and then choose "Restart." If you have open programs, you will be prompted to save your work before they are closed.

2. Choose "Restart" from the Apple menu. Again, if you haven't saved your work, you will be prompted to do so.

3. Press "Control," "Command" and "Power" buttons simultaneously to force a restart. This may not give you a prompt to save your work. Use this step only when the MacBook is locked and can't be shut down any other way.
