How to Clean Foggy Glass on a Fireplace
A fireplace adds a cozy feel and charm to any home. A foggy fireplace glass, however, diminishes these qualities. Soot, smoke residue and other debris accumulate on fireplace glass and leave it looking hazy. It is important to clean your fireplace glass properly so you don’t damage the glass in the process. Run a razor blade over the glass to remove as much buildup as possible. Start at the top of the glass and work your way down. Overlap your strokes with the razor blade to ensure no spot is missed. Move the razor blade slowly over the glass while applying a steady pressure. Wipe off the razor blade with a rag after each pass.

Moisten a soft rag with a small amount of ammonia. Scrub the glass with the rag. Switch to clean portions of the rag often and apply more ammonia as necessary until the glass is no longer foggy.

Wipe over the glass with a dry rag to remove any residue.

Tips & Warnings
You can clean fireplace glass still attached to the fireplace or you can remove it for cleaning.
Work in a well-ventilated area when using ammonia. The strong fumes are harmful. Wear rubber gloves and protective eyewear.
