How to Use a Dial a Gram Scale
Ohau's Dial-O-Gram scale is an easy to use analog scale often found in classroom settings. When using your Dial-O-Gram, make sure that it is placed on a flat, level setting. When it is not in use, cover it to prevent dust and debris from settling. Even small particles can accumulate and throw your scale out of balance. 2
Set the dial, the hundreds mass and the tens mass to zero. Make sure that the tens and the hundreds mass indicators are seated in the notches at the zero position. Make sure that the balance indicator to the far right of the scale is aligned. The mid line of the pointer should be aligned with the mid line of the indicator to the right of it.

3
Place the item to be weighed in the weighing pan.
-
4
Slide the hundreds mass to the right, one notch at a time until the pointer's midline moves below the midline on the indicator. Then move it back, one notch to the left.
-
5
Slide the tens mass to the right, one notch at a time until the pointer's midline moves below the midline on the indicator. Then move it back, one notch to the left.
-
6
Turn the dial slowly to the right until the pointer's midline lines up with the midline on the indicator.

7
Calculate the weight of the item. Read the number in the window of the hundreds mass. This is your hundreds place. Read the number in the window of the tens mass. This is your tens place. Look at the dial. Read the number on the dial just to the right of the zero mark on the dial's base. This is your ones place. Count the hash marks between the zero on the dial's base and the number to the right of zero on the dial (the ones place). This is your tenths place. Finally, find the hundredth's place. The hundredth's place is indicated by the hash mark on the dial that lines up with any hash mark on the dial's base. For example, if a hash mark on the dial lines up with the hash mark on the base that indicates .08 (three hash marks to the left of .05), then that is your hundredth's place.
