How to Reimage a Computer Hard Drive

The initial preparation of your system hard drive prior to installing an operating system lays down a file system image on the drive, which is akin to a blueprint describing to the operating system how the files therein will be arranged. Reimage, or restore, the existing file system image on your drive when it has suffered damage in the form of drive failure. Just back up important files before beginning, as reimaging a drive will replace the information on it.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," then click "Computer."

2. Right-click the drive to be reimaged, and click "Format" from the drop-down menu.

3. Choose your desired file system image from the drop-down menu.

4. Press "Start" to allow the computer to undergo the automatic process of reimaging the file system on the drive.
